A Leeds based cast plastering business has won the Gold Award for GRG & Fibrous Plaster at the annual FIS, Finishes & Interiors Sector Awards in London recently.

Ryedale Interiors, based in Beeston Leeds, won Gold for their £1.75M Fibrous Plaster works carried out on the Barton Square project at The Trafford Centre in Manchester. The contract was completed in March 2020, just as the Covid lockdown was announced.

Barton Square was completed in 2007 as an open-air shopping centre alongside the established Trafford Centre in Manchester. This £65M, 18-month project, was to glaze over the open courtyards & malls, create a 30m high central glazed dome and install new floor, wall & ceiling finishes. Ryedale Interiors developed the design, manufactured & installed all the Fibrous Plaster works that concealed the roof support steelwork and created this stunning new shopping centre.

Ryedale Interiors developed the design and manufactured around 200 different cornice, light trough, Greek key and column casing moulds and around 8000 plaster casts – all manufactured in Leeds by the skilled workshop team. The site teams installed the casts working day & night shifts as required, to deliver the visually stunning scheme.

Roger Hannon, Managing Director at Ryedale Interiors, said: “As a Leeds-based business, it’s an honour to receive this national accolade and it further highlights our position in this highly specialist construction sector.

This project awarded by Vinci Construction, was by far the largest single project we had ever taken on and was way outside our comfort zone – but the team at Ryedale Interiors embraced the challenges and delivered it impeccably, as is highlighted by this Gold Award from our industry peers. I couldn’t be prouder of our brilliant Yorkshire Team.”
